Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not Genuine Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Increase Tension on Frank

Spurs fans who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "those individuals can't be true Spurs fans" by boss Frank.

Tottenham conceded two goals in the opening initial moments to fall 2-1 to their opponents, marking their tenth top-flight home loss of the year.

However the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when the keeper lost possession far beyond his box.

He came out to handle a high pass and took the ball near the touchline.

But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to the keeper again, a number of Spurs fans booed him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.

A particular of those booing sessions really angered Frank.

"I heard some of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane commented about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be true Spurs supporters that act that way. Fair enough booing following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "totally preventable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part Vicario is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."

'It's In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Game

Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

The 29-year-old stated following the game that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second score was a error of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.

"The intent was to clear the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger challenge to overcome."

He stated being booed "comes with the game".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be affected by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do what they think.

"It's on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in composure and poise to overturn results. Today is a bad defeat and it's tough to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the second most distant Premier League goal of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 moments passed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 seconds after the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes sparked a bit.

"Udogie fell too, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it on target. I had a positive sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager

Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall bad day for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.

The match was their tenth at home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with 1994 and 2003.

The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play before the close of the season.

Just a single of those wins have occurred after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, all aspects appears to go against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the second is a mistake from Vic.

"This result puts us in a position where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully something we can use to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.

And they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 shots on target per game in the division – their poorest rates on record in a one season (dating back to 2003-04).

Ex- Fulham midfield player Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must accept the stick," the pundit said. "He's accepted a high profile role at a major team with massive anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
