Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side just half a year after leading derogatory chants aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds concluded amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading offensive songs about Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift the team he loves out of the bottom places.
Previous History Between Bamford and Wilder
Both men had a past before Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Looking Ahead
All appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to revive his career.
The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Struggles
The forward made 18 games for Leeds last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
