Fans are eagerly awaiting for the chilling show Welcome to Derry, that's been garnering praise and drawing from elements from other Stephen King works. Just one day after launch, HBO announced that the next chapter will debut sooner than expected, released fittingly for Halloween.
Early Release Particulars
Starting on Halloween night at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of It: Welcome to Derry will make its debut on HBO Max, ahead of its Sunday HBO premiere. Subsequent episodes of the series run will be released on Sundays on the network and streaming service, leading up to the season finale on the 14th of December.
Series Overview
Taking place within the Derry mythology, the new series borrows elements from King’s iconic novel while building upon the universe realized by director Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. It Chapter One centered on young characters battling supernatural evils, so it’s fitting that the prequel follows in those footsteps. Nevertheless, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry shows it intended to escalate the fear, offering heightened horror than the cinematic versions and establishing a dark atmosphere for what's to come.
Premise and Ideas
Set in 1962, the program presents a new generation of parents and youngsters living in a seemingly idyllic town concealing a evil heart. The town functions through a vicious, repeating pattern—one marked by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence returns every 27 years. While It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it skews too close to the films on the surface, what differentiates the streaming show is its parallel storytelling—told from the perspectives of kids and grown-ups concurrently. Younger characters are highly exposed to It's terror, but grown-ups aren’t spared dealing with their personal demons arising from the town's ingrained prejudice and lurking supernatural forces.
Episode 2 premieres on Halloween at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
